Join me in a walk around the first streets of the settlement of Newcastle. This tour is perfect for those who love history and enjoy exploring on foot. Engaging with a site on a physical level and hearing about life as it was is a wonderful way to learn about a city’s early beginnings – and our city’s story is unique!

Our walking tours are filled with history about the penal settlement at Coal River that was known at King’s Town from 1804. When free settlers arrived in the mid 1820’s everything changed for Newcastle and it became the most notorious and busiest port in the southern hemisphere.

Our meet up point is the fountain in front of the grand Customs House building down the very bottom of Watt Street, Newcastle across from the harbour and the old Newcastle train station.

Cost is $40 per person with a minimum of 2 people.

Some things you might want to know – Please be aware that a medium level of fitness is required to walk our hilly streets but I can assure you that we do take it slowly. Your best parking option is the Bolton Street car park, if leaving your vehicle in the city, as our meet up point is an easy 5 minute walk away.

Wallsend , Carrington ,Stockton History Meanders and Whitebridge Cemetery and Waratah walks are conducted with the help and knowledge of local historian ED TONKS ( author and researcher of local history) and are of a two hour duration at a cost of $30 per person.
